Templates for Public Art (TFPA) Vol. 7 with Limited Time Engagement (LTE)

About the Event

Date

Oct 30, 1:30 – 6pm

Location

Anderson Galleries, Atrium + Courtyard / SMFA at Tufts

Join Tufts University Art Galleries (TUAG), TUAG’s Student Programming Committee (SPC), and Limited Time Engagement (LTE, Kate Conlon and Boyang Hou) for Templates for Public Art, a publication of artist-designed jack-o-lantern templates published annually by Limited Time Engagement (LTE). The book is released each October at a carving party/exhibition where participants realize the artworks for public exhibition (as lit pumpkins).

Templates for Public Art is an ongoing project exploring new possibilities for public address. TFPA invites diverse forms of expression, from celebratory abstraction to radical protest. By transforming the front stoop into an exhibition space, the project turns the carved pumpkin into a vehicle for the spread of ideas.

Limited Time Engagement is the collaborative project of artists Kate Conlon and Boyang Hou. LTE works inside and outside the limited edition to play with the idea of manufactured scarcity—creating situations and commemorating them with objects. LTE’s work is in the collections of The Art Institute of Chicago, Depaul Art Museum, The Joan Flash Artist Book Collection, Ace Hotel, and The Institute of Contemporary Art Baltimore. They have performed and exhibited at The Boston Art Book Fair; 68 Projects, Berlin; OC Osaka, Japan; Wassaic Project, Wassaic, NY; The Terrain Biennial, Oak Park, IL; Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago; and The Chicago Art Book Fair. Prior to LTE, Conlon and Hou were founding directors of Fernwey Gallery and Editions, Chicago, IL.

The launch event for Templates for Public Art (TFPA) Volume 7 will take place at Tufts University Art Galleries in conjunction with the exhibition, Ulises: Assembly. Simultaneously, students are welcomed to join Student Life in the atrium for a Halloween celebration including dressing in costume, tarot readings, and a community meal.

Generous support for TUAG programming is provided by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
