A Letter from Our Director |

Dear Friends, As the year comes to a close, I’m taking the time to reflect on the two seasons, four exhibitions, and dozens of public programs that made 2024 a very special year here at Tufts University Art Galleries. Over the past year, the TUAG galleries welcomed a record number of visitors through an exhibition program that surfaced and re-examined underrecognized histories—from Boston’s vibrant queer community and nightlife scene in the 70s and 80s in to the undocumented stories of 19th-century Chinese immigrant labor behind the Transcontinental Railroad to the role of the artist publication, then and now, multifaceted conceptions of democracy, and the historic and ongoing disinvestment in Black communities alongside the legal successes of the Civil Rights movement and the power of collective action—all brought to light by the work of our artist collaborators. Our public programs—screenings, bookmaking and unmaking workshops, panels and lectures—welcomed artists and thinkers from across the globe into our Greater Boston and campus communities, while the Art Galleries served as informal classroom spaces for our students and faculty. In 2024, we reaffirmed that the arts—in their many forms—have an incredible capacity to generate new ways of looking, of thinking, and sharing our world with each other. None of this would have been possible without you—our community of artists, colleagues, neighbors, and collaborators. Thank you! We look forward to seeing you in the galleries in the year ahead and encourage you to consider TUAG’s vital work as you make your year-end gift plans. You can support our programs here. Wishing you a peaceful holiday season and a happy New Year! With thanks and warmest regards, Dina Deitsch Director & Chief Curator |
