Sofía Córdova: Backed Up Into Dawn |

Please join us for a VIP Tour of Sofía Córdova: Backed Up Into Dawn, on September 15 at 5pm before the public reception and performance by XUXA SANTAMARIA begin at 6pm. XUXA SANTAMARIA is artist Sofía Córdova’s collaborative experimental music project with partner and fellow artist Matthew Gonzalez Kirkland. In March 2015, the duo released a mixtape, Billionair Rainbow —a 6-track, bilingual meditation on societal alliances and entanglements with money, desire, power, debt, and revulsion and their their latest album, Chancletas D’Oro, was released in 2019. Sofía Córdova: Backed Up Into Dawn, is the first institutional solo presentation of Puerto Rican-born, Oakland-based conceptual interdisciplinary artist Sofía Córdova, who works with performance, music, video, photography, sculpture and installation. Presenting an extensive body of work that highlights Córdova’s engagements with climate capitalism and its entanglement with colonial erasure, this exhibition includes a newly commissioned installation and video works. This exhibition will be presented at TUAG’s Grossman & Anderson Galleries at SMFA at Tufts campus in Boston from August 30 through October 23, 2022. |

The Sun Rises in the West and Sets in the East |

Please join us for a VIP Tour of The Sun Rises in the West and Sets in the East on October 6 at 5pm before the public reception and performance by Nyugen E. Smith begin at 6pm. Four Moments of the Sun (2022), a new performance by Nyugen E. Smith, draws upon African and African diasporic spiritual traditions related to light and the metaphysical world as a way to reimagine hegemonic structures throughout history. The Sun Rises in the West and Sets in the East features 11 internationally acclaimed artists who are exploring and challenging global structures of power and offering new ways of thinking about social, cultural, and political systems. Developed by guest curator Sara Raza, the exhibition will include a wide range of installations by artists such as Yael Bartana, Emily Jacir, Nyugen E. Smith, and Nari Ward, among others. This exhibition will be presented at TUAG’s Tisch & Koppelman Galleries at Aidekman Arts Center in Medford from August 30 through December 11, 2022. |
