One Week Left to See Tomashi Jackson: Across the Universe |
|
We’re overwhelmed with gratitude at the response our community has had to our Fall 2024 exhibitions, and it’s bittersweet to say that next week will be your final chance to catch Tomashi Jackson: Across the Universe at TUAG / Medford before it heads to Houston. The Galleries will be open this Tuesday, December 3—Sunday, December 8, 11am-5pm for you to explore the exhibition. Please note that after December 8, the galleries will be closed through January 16. Thinking ahead? You can learn more about our upcoming Spring 2025 season, featuring Impossible Music, a survey of the sonic vanguard, and an archive and/or a repertoire, a living retrospective of the influential Boston collective Mobius Artist Group, here. |

Workshop: Community Crocheting |
|
To close out our Fall 2024 season, please join the TUAG Student Programming Committee for a crochet workshop with Leslie Rogers, SMFA Professor of the Practice in Sculpture, on the final day of Tomashi Jackson: Across the Universe on December 8 at TUAG / Medford. Taking inspiration from Tomashi Jackson’s use of fibers, knitwear, and woven elements, Rogers will teach participants basic crochet techniques with provided materials. Together, we can knit community via shared artmaking. |

This past month put 2024 exhibiting artist Tomashi Jackson on the cover of the Boston Art Review for a feature and photoshoot spotlighting her many-layered practice, and on the airwaves with Arielle Gray at WBUR. Jackson’s Time and Space (2020) (seen above) was featured on the cover of BAR’s Issue 13: Make Believe, as a companion to an incredible feature by Alisa Prince. The perennially timely work layers archival images from the Civil Rights Movement with ephemera from the 2020 election—an election marked by an uptick in polling place closures. In their conversation, Jackson and Prince remind us that history and the present are always intertwined, but more importantly, that the systems we take for granted are never guaranteed. Read the full story by ordering a copy at the link here. For WBUR’s Morning Edition, Arielle Gray joined Jackson and TUAG Director Dina Deitsch for a wonderful conversation about the power of memory, transcending boundaries, and the “galaxies of possibilities” that art opens for us all. If you missed it during drive time, you can hear the full story along with an accompanying feature on WBUR.org. For a full roundup of this season’s press coverage, please visit our website. |
