This fall, the Tufts University Art Galleries (TUAG) are pleased to present Véxoa: We Know, a survey of Indigenous art of Brazil developed by curator and educator Naine Terena (member of the Terena Indigenous people of the Brazilian State of Mato Grosso do Sul). Through the work of 22 artists and collectives, informed by the role of art as a tool for activism, the exhibition argues for new aesthetic criteria to reflect the contributions of Indigenous nations in today’s Brazil. First presented at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, Véxoa will have its only North American venue at TUAG and is made possible at Tufts by the Teiger Foundation. Please join us on September 20th for a special tour and exhibition preview at 5pm with guest co-curator Claudia Mattos Avolese (SMFA at Tufts faculty), followed by a 6pm public program and reception featuring exhibiting artists Denilson Baniwa and Daiara Hori.
