The Tufts University Art Galleries are pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition, Véxoa: We Know, a survey of living Indigenous art of Brazil developed by curator and educator Naine Terena (member of the Terena Indigenous people of the Brazilian State of Mato Grosso do Sul). First presented at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo in 2020-21, Véxoa will have its only North American venue at Tufts University Art Galleries (TUAG). Through the work of 22 artists and collectives and informed by the role of art as a tool for activism, the exhibition argues for new aesthetic criteria to reflect the contributions of Indigenous nations in today’s Brazil. The VIP Preview will be followed by a 6pm public reception and program featuring exhibiting artist Denilson Baniwa. Baniwa (from the Darí village, in the Baturité-Barreira community, municipality of Barcelos (AM), in the lower Negro River region) uses performance, graphics, installation and digital media to create resistance spaces and Indigenous movements. Véxoa will feature two new mural by Baniwa—indoors and outdoors. |
